Create a Indoor-Outdoor Living Space

Since moving into my new house, I’ve been so excited to transform my outdoor living space into something special. With summer behind us, now is the perfect time to start making changes to the garden and turning it into an extension of my home I want to create a seamless outdoor in-door feel. We have moved into a bigger house but with fewer bedrooms and this means I need to make the most of the outdoor space and consider all my options.

Outdoor living has become popular, and we all know I love it.  Whether you’re after a garden office, a fun bar, or even a gym, There are so many cool options in indoor and outdoor spaces out there and I’ve got some great ideas to share on creating indoor style in your outdoor space. Creating a new living area to use.

So, Let's chat about all the different options in outdoor rooms I have found when I have been spending hours scrolling the internet reading guides to creating indoor spaces outdoors and looking for inspiration for my own garden project!

Work From Your Garden Office

We viewed so many houses that had a garden office and I had never really thought about this as an option, I needed a proper work-from-home setup. Working from the dining room is fine for a while, but I would love a space where I could fully focus and more importantly shut the door to when I come in. I am guilty of just jumping back on to quickly do one more thing. So this would stop that.

I loved one home office which had a patio from the living room to the office this really brought the indoor outdoors and I loved it, especially the connection between the spaces. It gave the impression of a lovely internal courtyard vibe and blurs the lines between the house and the garden office giving the two areas their own feel but keeping them cohesive. Indoor and outdoors can live as one but be different.

An Outdoor Bar For Entertaining.

One of my favourite ideas for the new garden is building a cosy outdoor bar/living area! Imagine warm summer evenings spent sipping cocktails with friends in the comfort of your own space and your house is only a stumble away when it's a bit of a blur and you can close the door on all the mess til the next day.  It’s such a fun way to use the garden, and you can totally get creative with it. I mean what an entertaining space this would be. There are so many design ideas you could do in an outdoor bar.

Of course another option, You could even add an outdoor cooking area out the front too. This would allow you to enjoy food and a little tipple all outside alfresco.  I love the idea of adding natural elements like using a nice piece of wood as a table outside the bar with a bench. Outdoor kitchens are very popular at the moment you might as well add one if you are creating a bar area right. You can see how my mind gets caught up in the possibilities of indoor and outdoor living spaces.

Workout in Your Very Own Gym

I'd love to create a home gym in the garden.  I am a mountain bike athlete so I spend a lot of time training and right now that is in the living room which just doesn't look or feel great. Plus gym memberships are expensive and having my own personal workout space would save so much space and money in the long run. Plus, it’s a great way to revamp garden space with something practical I'd use nearly every day. I can see the whole gym in my mind, the natural light in the morning, the large windows, the open-plan training environment. Heaven. Its a hard yes from me.

Relax in Your Cinema Room

One house we looked at had a cinema room in the garden and it might just have been the collect things I have seen. As someone who loves movie nights, Could you imagine having friends around fancy a film night and then opening the door to your own cinema? I mean come on that is cool. I can imagine opening the French door onto a beautiful old-school cinema with the big screen as the focal point.  I think would be a really clever way to really make an impact whilst creating an indoor-outdoor living space.  I just can't decide if I would go old old-fashioned Cinema seats or big sofas. There are so many options But I do love the idea of big textured walls and a fluffy rug with a vintage yet modern vibe.

Your Man Cave/Women's Shed

When we viewed our current house one of the big selling points was the log cabin in the garden. My husband spends a lot of time fixing our bikes and he defo deserves to have a safe place he can do this. It was so important to us. He has his own space to do this. He can start a complex bike project and leave it and come back to it another day this was not possible without a man shed and I am so glad we have it. No more oily bike parts on the living room floor.

You could make it your own little space. Imagine a cosy nook indoor-outdoor space to go have a glass of wine or do some yoga read or paint. This is the outside space if you want it to just be a little sunroom that you can head out to and chill in then make it just that.

Imagine grabbing your coffee and heading out to sit and watch the great outdoors with the natural light coming through the big glass doors, bliss this is your own little oasis in indoor outdoor living.

My final thoughts
Moving house has been the perfect excuse to get creative with my outdoor space and spend far too much time online researching different options.  Whether it’s building a garden office, creating a bar, or designing a gym, there are so many exciting ways to bring the indoors outside. This is an extension of your home linking indoor and outdoor spaces. I know remodelling your living area is a big project but this is the perfect compromise as it is all in your garden, You are bringing the indoors to the outdoors. you need to make your home feel like a place you want to be and I know that can take some work but sometimes it's more than worth it to create the home of your dreams.

I really hope this has given you some inspiration for your own garden project.
