One of the great things about going away for just a single weekend is that you can pack light. Still, getting the best from your weekend often means packing in the right way – but what exactly does that mean?
If you know what you’ll be wearing, you can avoid packing items that will remain folded in your suitcase. Think about the activities you’ll be doing, the weather, and dress code of anywhere you might attend. For the daytime, opt for comfortable options, and for the evening, try choose clothing that can be layered for cooler nights. Bring a versatile jacket that can be added to any outfit. A flattering evening dress should also be on the packing list for any fancier restaurants or occasions.
If you don’t have an appropriate case with which to transport everything, then you might find the journey itself a little more stressful than it needs to be. You might even risk your clothes getting damaged in transit.
For a weekend trip, you don’t need anything huge. A lightweight carry-on case can be easily stashed in an overhead compartment and wheeled through a hotel lobby.
The more versatility you can pack into your case, the fewer items you’ll ultimately need to transport. Look for items that can be mixed and matched with one another. Since you’re only travelling for a single weekend, it might be that you can get a lot of mileage from a handful of jeans, t-shirts, evening dresses, and hats. The set of jeans that looks casual when paired with a t-shirt might work just as well with a blouse, but form part of a completely different look. Your use of accessories will also make a big difference, here.
There are a few items that you won’t be able to go without, even for just a few days. Toothpaste, toothbrushes, hairbrushes and a choice few items of makeup might be all you need to take – especially if you’re staying in a hotel. It’s worth thinking about how you can simplify your skincare routine for the sake of the trip. The bag you use to transport your bathroom stuff also matters – look for something resilient, with enough pockets to accommodate everything.
A few items of jewellery can tie your wardrobe together, and make it feel cohesive. But technological accessories can make your trip more enjoyable, too. Don’t forget your phone’s charger, as well as any adapters you might need for foreign plug-sockets. Keep your jewellery stored in a suitable case, in order to minimise the risk that it will be lost or damaged on the way.
