Well, this is a day I didn't think would ever come. I am packing to head to Devon right after I write this post. I absolutely love Devon. It is really close to my heart. My inlaws live down there and it is a home away from home for me. There is something so magical about Devon, the coastline, the moors the history it is just a wonderful place to be.
There is everything you could want in Devon for a holiday. There are nice little traditional villages, rugged coastlines stunning beaches wild moors and if you fancy a city break Exeter is the place for you. It has wonderful shopping and a stunning cathedral.
If you are looking to head to Devon yourself I recommend booking you hotel now. I have used Hotel.com many times and will use them again. With the possibility of no abroad holidays this year it is time to make your booking for staycations. Always make sure to check all the government guidance at the time of booking and before travelling as the rules are fast-changing and you don't want anything to ruin your trip.
Today post is in collaboration with Hotels.com, but all views are my own.
I want to tell you why I love Devon and why you need to consider it for your staycation this year.
The weather, beaches and sea.
I am from the Scottish Highlands our summer is well to put it nicely ever-changing. We get cold, hot and everything in between. I love Devons hot summer weather. It feels tropical to me. It has the nicest beaches and coves. one of the things I love the most about the coastline of Devon is the warm water. No matter what type of watersports you like from wild swimming to paddle boarding to kayaking. There is nothing better than doing it in the warmer temperatures of Devon. There is nothing not to love about the beaches and coastline in Devon. But don't forget your swimming jersey the UV can be really strong in Devon just because you're in the UK doesn't mean you don't need to cover up.
The food.
I mean where do you start with the food. This is a place where the Scone reigns supreme. I am a huge sweet tooth and I love a good cream tea and Devon has some of the best I have ever had. There is a Devonshire split which is a sweet bread served with clotted cream. I could write a whole post about my love of clotted cream. I love the stuff. It is crazy how much I like this.
They have so many world-famous cheeses that I don't know where to start there. Hogs pudding if you don't know what this is it's a traditional sausage-like meat product. It is spicy with ingredients like basil garlic and cumin.
I would be doing a disservice if I didn't mention the seafood. With Devon having one of the busiest fishing ports in the UK Brixham you have a never-ending array of fresh fish and seafood. Being from a fishing family and village if I can tell you to do one thing it is to try out the seafood in Devon. You will love it.
The wildlife
I love animals and nature I have done it for as long as I can remember. I remember the first time I went on Dartmoor I was gobsmacked by the Dartmoor ponies. I have never seen so many wild ponies in my life. they are just majestic and beautiful. It is so wonderful that in this day and age these beautiful creatures are living their best life roaming around on the moor.
I have seen dolphins, porpoise and minke whales off the shores of Devon. I have been snorkelling in the turquoise blue waters where I have seen hundreds of fish, even little sharks and other sea creatures. I love snorkelling and Devon is some of the best in the UK. If you get the right conditions it is like being in the Mediterranian. Pure bliss
If you are travelling with children, you could also visit The Big Sheep in North Devon.
Of course, there are hundreds of reasons that you should visit Devon and I could spend a lifetime telling you them but you need to experience Devon by yourself to really understand the beauty and wonder of Devon. You will not be disappointed in a trip to Devon.
