I get asked a lot about my job and how I make money. I have always considered this a strange question but, that is because I do my job and I am so used to what I do and how I do it. I never really think about the fact that this is a relatively new career and people don't understand it. When asked about my career I say I am a blogger and my husband when asked will say I am an online content creator. Yes, I am both. I have been blessed to work online for many years now. I love my work and I love the freedom it gives me to do the things I love.
This last year has hit everyone like a ton of brick and I know a lot of people have lost income, jobs and are very uncertain about the future. I completely understand this I have been in this situation many times in my life. I know how hard it is when money is tight and you are worried about how to pay your bills. Today I want to talk about 5 ways to make money online. So let's get into it, shall we?
1. Blogging
Now, this is not a make a site and boom you make money type of situation that most people think it is. It is time-consuming and a lot of work. To be honest I was not aware of how many hours would go into blogging as a beginner and even now i work long days.
To be a blogger You need to be good at computing, design, and writing as a basic. Then you need to have good photography skills and modelling skills. Learn search engine optimization (SEO) and how to utilise social media. There is a lot more to this job than writing and taking a nice photo. But that being said you can make good money from this and it is all based online where ever you and your laptop might be.
2. Build an online store
This is something that I have considered. There are so many ways to build and make your own store nowadays. No need to pay the high rental costs of an actual shop on the high street. You can build your own website or sell through Depop or eBay or Amazon. You need to decide what will set your store apart and what you want to sell. There will be an initial outlay cost of the products you want to sell.
I have always had a passion for shoes and I think I would go down this route. Staying ahead of the trend is always a good idea in the shoe market. So I would start with looking for the best new designs of wholesale footwear and make a list of shoes that I think I could sell easily for a profit. It is important when starting this business that you think about your customer and not yourself. Yes, you might love those 6-inch multi-coloured heels but can you sell them with ease. This is the way to start until you get established then you can take more risks.
3. Online survey
There are a lot of companies that will pay you for your opinion. This is a great way to make some spending money. I have done these in the past. You make an account pop in all your details to create your account. Then you are sent out surveys to complete and you make some money. These can range from a few pennies to hundreds of pounds. Most of the time they are really simple to complete they are between 10 to 15 minutes of tick boxes. But there can be a few surveys where you can participate with a zoom call about a product or for research. These are normally the higher paid options and more difficult to get but worth it if you can get them.
4. Copywriting, Editing, Writing, Admin tasks.
You can sell your own skills. Are you good at typing? Do you know how to video or photo edit? Whatever your skill you can sell it. There are businesses all over the world looking for people to proofread, do admin tasks, or research for them. This is a great way to make a real income from the skills you already possess. You can even become an online PA for a business or person.
5. Teaching
I have seen an increase in the need for online tutors. After the last year, a lot of parents are concerned about the education of their children and turning to tutors to get a bit of extra help. If you have teaching skill and qualification this would be a great way to work from the comfort of your own home. This is not only for academic vocation but also goes for music, dance and PE I have seen a rise in request for teacher and education generally.
With the rise of unemployment and people changing careers, I have noticed that the need for teacher and educators extends to adults too. A lot of people took the last year to evaluate their circumstances and make the decision to make big career changes. So that is another market to tap into people wanting to retrain or brush up on existing skills.
As we move into a more technologic mobile world you really can work from anywhere you want to. I have worked on Mountain sides, beaches, ferries, planes, from my van conversion, hotel lobbies and coffee shops. You name it I have most likely been working from there. I love the freedom my job gives me and if you are reading this might just be the sign you have been waiting for to start your online adventure.
