I remember the feeling of finally passing my test and then the feeling of anxiety of finding my first car. Luckily my first car was a very old Ford Fiesta that my husband had. He had just upgraded to a new car. So it seemed sensible to pass the car along to me.
Interesting story about this car. When this car was bought from new it was bought by Rod Stewart. Yes, that Rod Stewart. He bought it for his niece for her 18th birthday. My husband grew up in the same village as his niece and worked with her in the local bar. When she got an upgrade he bought it from her. That is my husband’s claim to fame. It was very cool that my first car was originally bought by a huge star. So that was my first car, an old red Ford Fiesta once bought by Rod Stewart. I named the car Walter and he was a fantastic little runaround. He took me and my husband before me all over the world. Me mostly in Scotland but My husband drove this little car to Norway, France and Spain to name a few places.
I remember my first drive after passing my test, I was extremely nervous and didn't really know what to do. I took my husband on a little outing and then returned home. It was very strange when you realise you are in control and the familiarity of your driving instructor being by your side is now gone and you are in charge. I mean where to go and what junction to take.
It wasn't until I was to venture out on my own that I really felt the freedom and independence that a car gives you. I lived rurally at the time. I still do and I rely on my car more than most people. My nearest supermarket is a 2 hour round trip. I need my car to just do simple things like taking the dogs to the beach and going to work. This was before I became a blogger as I work from home. Our cars are a huge lifeline in our lives and I think we mostly take them for granted I know I do.
Driving has taken me to lots of places not only in my personal life but I was a police officer and passed my police driving course. This was before the easier police driving course when we had to learn high speed, blue lights, vehicle stops etc. So I was a full Bluelight police driver. It's all a bit different now in the police you can do different levels of police driving from just being able to drive the car to full pursuit driver training.

I was doing some research the other day as my friend is looking for her first car and this got me thinking about what do I wish I had known before I bought my first car. I always get asked about cars and the rules and regs of vehicles. Once in the police and all that.
I found this super helpful article on the best car for new drivers and it raises some awesome points. There are lots of cars to choose from on the market just now and it can be overwhelming for you to narrow it down to the one you want and need. Dayinsure has covered all the bases in this article. They look at different metrics from safety, economy, reviews and of course the price. They have ranked the twenty best selling cars in the UK From 1994 to 2019. I will not spoil the results, you will have to go and check them out but I will tell you my Ford Fiesta did not make the top ten. In fact, I am quite shocked at the results. Needless to say, I forwarded this article on to my friend.
I did also notice Dayinsure are running a competition to win a £200 Halfords vouchers too, so get on over there and enter for your chance to win. You know I love a good comp or two.
I hope you have enjoyed this trip down memory lane and you found my research helpful if you are looking for a new set of wheels. Am I the only one who names my cars? Answers on a postcard.
